Video sub-titling

Videos are an essential part of corporate communication strategies. Most people watch them without sound at the office or on social media, so subtitling is key. Our translation agency provides a professional subtitling service in a wide range of languages.

Subtitling is a type of audio-visual translation that consists of adding sub-titles to a video so that they are synchronised with the original language of the video. Subtitling is used to transcribe dialogue and speech for films and videos. They can be used for documentaries, corporate videos, webinars, YouTube videos, software, training videos, etc.

Our audivisual subtitlers are experts at adapting the spoken word to comply with subtitling standards.

This service involves several stages

Time coding

  • Defining the number of images per second, maximum and minimum duration of sub-titles on screen, reading speed depending on audience.
  • Time-coding, which means determining the time at which to insert each subtitle.

  • Adapting the translated text so that it complies with technical restrictions and constraints while also respecting the original audio version and style.

Voice-off, voice over, dubbing

What’s the difference between these three services ?

Voice-off involves the recording of comments or a narration. This services is well suited to documentaries, corporate films, ads, etc.

Voice over

Voice over involves replacing the narration in the original language by narration in the target language. The actor records the translation without adapting it « synchro ».

Dubbing is when original voices are replaced by voices speaking the target language.

A technical check must be carried out before recording to ensure proper lip synching.

Recording happens in several stages:

  • Detecting time codes;
  • Translating/adapting text, depending on the chosen option;
  • Casting to select the actors;
  • Recording in a studio with the client present or attending by video call ;
  • Post-production: editing, mixing, assembly, mastering;
  • Delivery in mp4 or other formats.
